A MESSAGE FROM TRAINING UNLIMITED
Unfortunately
for all of us who rely on computers, there are a lot of mean people who
will take advantage of any vulnerability. There are many ways to invade
your computer for data, not necessarily for malicious destruction. However,
if you have a quantity of micro programs running in the background they
will eventually bog your computer down to the point it becomes useless.
Worse, many of these programs are data miners which gather data for the
purpose of identity theft or, more innocently, for marketing to you. Many
anti virus programs will not catch these micro programs because they don’t
have the characteristics of a virus. This stuff enters your computer via
e-mail, often from e-mailers who are completely unaware that they are
passing along potentially harmful bugs.
If your computer seems to be slowing down for no apparent reason or if
you are getting “pop up” ads, search the internet for adaware
type downloads and research them before downloading. Some of the pop-up
“nukers” are themselves data miners, particularly free ones.
If you believe someone has stolen critical financial information off your
computer, or if you suspect you have received or opened a data miner (a.k.a.
phishing)contact:
uce@ftc.gov
reportphishing@antiphishing.org
or go to these web sites:
www.ic3.gov
www.consumer.gov/idtheft
If an e-mail you’ve received is suspect, don’t open it. Some
of these micro programs have the capability to replicate the addresses
of people you have sent e-mail to. They will send an e-mail to you and
make it look like it came from someone you’re familiar with.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS
Regardless of what one may think about the war in Iraq, consider the plight
of the folks in Iraq, getting blown up and shot at. They are heroes any
way you look at it and they deserve our support. They’re not there
because they were bored or because they were tired of the Bahamas. Let’s
give them our LOUD and CLEAR support.
You might find it in your heart to donate a prepaid calling card to a
military member. Log on to any of the three Armed Services Exchange web
sites: the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, the Navy Exchange Service
Command , and the Marine Corps Exchange . Click the “Help Our Troops
Call Home link. From there, a prepaid calling card may be purchased for
an individual at his or her deployed address or to “any service
member” deployed or hospitalized. The Armed Services Exchanges will
distribute cards donated to "any service member" through the
American Red Cross, Air Force Aid Society and the Fisher House Foundation.
The Armed Services Exchanges operate telephone call centers in Iraq, Kuwait,
Afghanistan, and other countries and aboard ships -- anywhere service
members are deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation
Iraqi Freedom. All of these locations stay busy around the clock to keep
up communication between deployed troops and their loved ones. The cards
available through the "Help Our Troops Call Home" program offer
the best value for calls made from the call centers, never expire, and
there are no added charges or connection fees.
Individuals and organizations also can show their support to deployed
troops and their families with gift certificates. The "Gift of Groceries"
program allows anyone to purchase commissary gift certificates at http://www.commissaries.com/
or by calling toll free 1 (877) 770-GIFT. The Armed Services Exchanges
offer the Gift From the Homefront gift certificate for merchandise at
these exchange web sites: http://www.aafes.com and http://www.navy-nex.com
or by calling toll free 1 (877) 770-GIFT. Gift certificates may be purchased
to be mailed to service members and family members or will be distributed
to any service member. Only authorized commissary and exchange patrons
may redeem the gift certificates at military commissaries and exchanges,
including those stores supporting deployed personnel around the globe.
